 | City of Irvine 40th Anniversary In 2011, Irvine turned 40. To celebrate the City’s vibrant history and promising future, we incorporated 40th Anniversary festivities into many of our existing events throughout the year. We also created unique ways for residents to participate directly in shaping this milestone anniversary, which included the 40th Anniversary Photo and Motto Contests. The winning Motto from Sylvia Walker, which was adopted by the City Council, to be used throughout 2012 is, “City of Innovation.” On this page, you may also find original 40th Anniversary programming such as the “Irvine Oral History Project” and “I AM Irvine.” We have also archived our Irvine Profiles, in which we interviewed some of Irvine’s earliest residents. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . | . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . | Inaugural Business Recognition | Throughout 2011, the City recognized several inaugural businesses and organizations, which have been in Irvine since its incorporation in 1971.
