Babysitting Safety Tips For BabysittersBabysitting can be an excellent way to give children safe and affordable child care right in their homes. Babysitters should consider the following safety tips: Learn as much as possible about the family. Minors should receive their parents' permission before sitting for a family. Learn the child's medical history, likes, habits and the parents' rules. Plan for emergency situations. Look for smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and a fire escape plan. Become familiar with the house, and find alternate ways of getting out. Post emergency telephone numbers for fire, police, rescue squads, poison control, family doctors and the number where the child's parents can be reached. Your parents should be the only people who know you are babysitting. Keep all doors locked. When answering a phone call, explain that the person they wish to speak to cannot come to the phone now and offer to take a message. Keep children out of the kitchen when cooking.
