Healthy Food Drive

11/15/2012

The City of Irvine, in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, is hosting a “Healthy Food Drive” from December 1, 2012 through January 15, 2013 to help families and seniors in need this holiday season. The “Healthy Food Drive” will kick off December 1 at the AYSO Mayor’s Cup Soccer Tournament in Irvine. Donation barrels will be available at the event.

Collected items will benefit eight of Irvine’s food pantry distribution programs:  AIDS Service Foundation, Christian Mission Alliance Bethel Korean Church, Christian Outreach Center, Families Forward, Illumination Foundation, Mariners Church, St. Thomas More Church and St. Vincent de Paul/St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.  The goal of the program is to collect 3,500 pounds of canned good items.

Although no items will be turned away, the program’s focus is on the following healthy food items: Canned fruits, canned juices, canned soups, rice, cereals, canned vegetables, canned proteins (fish, chicken, meat, etc.), jelly/jam, peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, and pasta mixes/rice mixes.

Donation barrels are available at various City facilities and faith-based organizations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Click here for a complete list of drop-off locations and addresses.
