Irvine Police Department to Participate in Community Safety Expo

3/21/2012

On Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Irvine Police Department, in partnership with the Orange County Fire Authority and the California Fire Museum will be participating in the Orange County Great Park’s Community Safety Expo.

This fun and educational event will feature interactive displays and demonstrations as well as activities for the kids.  Emergency Management, Traffic, K-9 and SWAT officers will be on hand to provide information and answer your questions.  Irvine’s award winning Mobil Communications vehicle, SWAT rescue vehicle and police Motorcycles will be available to tour and try out.  Kids can bring their bikes for a free safety inspection and try out their skills on the simulation course.

This free event is the perfect opportunity to meet your City’s emergency personnel and learn ways to help them keep your family safe and prepared for any type of emergency.

“Events like these give our personnel the opportunity to meet with the community they serve before an actual emergency”, said Irvine Police Chief Dave Maggard.  “Developing an understanding of what to expect from emergency personnel during an actual disaster or other major event is invaluable when developing a personal plan and preparing a strategy for your family’s safety.”

Gourmet food trucks will be available throughout the event.  A full schedule of events is available online at www.ocgp.org. The Orange County Great Park is located off the 5 or 405 freeways at Sand Canyon and Marine Way in Irvine.
