| News Details | Drug Take-Back Day in Irvine4/24/2012 On Saturday, April 24, 2012, the Irvine Police Department will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Irvine’s collection site will be at the Irvine Civic Center, One Civic Center Plaza, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Community members may drop off their medications free and anonymously during those hours.
By joining in this national effort, the Irvine Police Department will give the community an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted medications. Typically, these the Irvine site will collect more than 200 pounds of prescription drugs and other medications contributing as one of more than 3000 collection sites operated by local law enforcement agencies nationwide.
The Irvine Police Department urges residents to bring expired or unneeded medicines to the collection site, eliminating the potential for diversion, misuse, abuse, or even accidental poisoning. Additionally, the improper disposal of medications such as flushing them down a toilet or throwing them in the trash pose public safety, health, and environmental hazards.
