Irvine's Great Outdoors, Close to Home

5/9/2008

This year, the City of Irvine celebrates 20 years of protecting and preserving Irvine’s open space.  The anniversary will be celebrated at Bommer Canyon Cattle Camp on Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The official program will start promptly at 10:30 a.m.

This free, public event will include entertainment, barbeque, nature hikes, and exhibits. Residents are encouraged to wear country western or outdoor attire.

The event commemorates the historic 1988 Open Space Ballot Initiative that set the course for land preservation in the City of Irvine.  The Initiative established a mechanism for the dedication of natural open space lands.  By linking development areas to specific open space districts, the Initiative requires the dedication of open space lands once a certain threshold of development is reached.

No confirmation is required to attend the event.  Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged.  Please no pets.  For additional event information, please call (949) 724-6606.
