The success of the Irvine Fine Arts Center, the installation of numerous public art projects throughout the city, and the construction of the Irvine Barclay Theatre demonstrated that there was substantial community support for the arts in Irvine. These accomplishments, along with the support generated by the Arts Irvine planning sessions, resulted in the establishment of the Cultural Affairs Commission. The Commission, which operated for three years, oversaw programs in arts education, cultural grants, and the Irvine Arts Festival. The Commission's mission statement was: The Irvine Cultural Affairs Commission is dedicated to bringing diverse cultural opportunities to everyone by mobilizing the resources of the arts, education, business, and government and community to develop, foster and promote the arts as experiences central to the life of the city.
