Peter Y.K. Chan
Distinguished Citizen
Peter Chan is a long-time volunteer with the City of Irvine working in Senior Resources, Hospitality and Special Events. He is also a long-standing Board Member and Past President of the Irvine Evergreen Chinese Senior Association. He has worked diligently to address the unmet needs of isolated, non-English speaking seniors in Irvine. Because he is multi-lingual and has a strong understanding of various Asian cultures. For over a decade, Mr. Chan has volunteered with the City of Irvine Senior Services, averaging a total of 300 volunteer hours per year. As an Office Assistant volunteer for the Keen Center for Senior Resources and Outreach, Mr. Chan provides professional and caring support to mature adults and their families; identifying challenges and providing helpful resources. This includes responding to physical, emotional, economic and social challenges that threaten the independence, security and well-being of seniors. Mr. Chan is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese and is particularly helpful in responding to the needs of Chinese participants. He is an incredible asset to the seniors in our community and an inspiration to those who have had the privilege of working with him. He has contributed to a legacy of cultural understanding in Irvine.
