The City of Irvine appreciates the service of the following honoree:

Nancy Chase
Distinguished Citizen
A longtime resident, Nancy Chase served as a classroom volunteer, PTA member, and Booster at both of her kids schools in Irvine. She began the Community Service Club at Springbrook Elementary School, a way to teach children about giving back to others in a community where most kids have so much. Mrs. Chase has been a volunteer at Irvine Temporary Housing and now Families Forward for over 20 years. She is faithful, trustworthy, caring and professional and volunteers weekly. She has served as an Officer, Secretary and Vice President of Programs during her two terms of Board involvement. It is with her leadership that the volunteer program has grown and now over 1,000 hours of volunteer time cover the phones and intake of families needing assistance. Volunteers have now been recruited to tend to many other activities of the organization. They are totally responsible for the food pantry where they donate, sort, bag, and distribute food to over 100 families a week. Mrs. Chase and her family have provided a holiday store for children in housing at Families Forward, along with cookie decorating and personalized gifts for the children to give their parents each year. They have undertaken the activity for 10 years. She is a mentor to other volunteers and a spokesperson for those dealing with poverty, job loss, homelessness and grief. At the Merage Jewish Community Center she serves on the Board of Directors, the Womens Philanthropists of the Bureau of Jewish Education, which teaches teens about philanthropy. Mrs. Chase played a key role in establishing the Maccabi Games with local athletes competing throughout the world. At Chapman University she is co-chair of the Board of Visitors of the Rogers Center for Holocaust Education. She recently retired from 14 years of driving and delivering Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors. She was a member of the National Charity League for six years. Mrs. Chase gives back to her community every day. As a community member she has a strong vision and commitment to make her city and its citizens the best they can be. She lives in Irvine with her husband, Irv where they are currently awaiting the birth of their first grandchilda new generation of volunteers and solid community members.
