The City of Irvine appreciates the service of the following honoree:
| Wall of Recognition | | | Brigadier General Robert Tate | | | Distinguished Citizen | | General Robert Tate moved to Irvine with his wife in 1970 before its incorporation and was part of the volunteer team working with the Council of Communities to develop the community plan and incorporation for the City of Irvine. He served on the Public Safety Committee under the Council of Communities to develop the plan for public safety in Irvine. He worked with Saddleback College Small Business Committee to support curriculum and workshops to support small business growth in Irvine and Orange County. He continued his community activities as a volunteer to support the Veterans History Project at the Lakeview Senior Center and joined with other veterans to continue a youth education program on United States Military history. He was involved in the first and subsequent City Memorial Day and Veterans Day Ceremony and gives ongoing military history and protocol guidance to staff and volunteers. He has continued to provide input and support military and veteran activities in Irvine and with the Orange County Great Park. After the events of 9/11 he joined an Irvine Homeland Security committee coordinated by Irvine Public Safety to develop a plan for local response to acts of terror. He continues his support of military and City events as well as taking the helm as the President of the Air Force Association.
General Tates children graduated from University High School and his daughter graduated from University of California Irvine. He now splits his time between Indiana where is grandson lives and Irvine. |
