The City of Irvine appreciates the service of the following honoree:

Fathi and Maria Yousef
Distinguished Citizen
Fathi and Maria Yousef, provided assistance and leadership to the Friends of Outreach, the Senior Leadership Committee, the International Crafters, the Irvine Global Village Festival and much more. Mr. and Mrs. Yousef are being nominated for the Wall of Recognition in honor of their twenty plus years of volunteer service to the Irvine community and their significant contribution to the development of senior programs in Irvine. Mr. Yousef, PhD is a Professor Emeritus at California State University, Long Beach, and Mrs. Yousef is a retired nurse and researcher at University of California, Irvine Medical Center. Between the two, they have served as President, Vice President, and Secretary for the Executive Board of Friends of Outreach, a 33 year strong nonprofit Irvine organization dedicated to serving the needs of homebound seniors, through fundraising and socialization. Additionally, Mrs. Yousef chairs the International Crafters, a branch of the Friends of Outreach who knit and crochet items for donation to cancer patients, active military members and homebound seniors, as well as selling handcrafted items to raise funds for senior in-home care services. Both serve on the Irvine Global Village Festival steering committee each year as well as the Irvine Multicultural Association, which promotes international harmony and understanding. Beyond these organizational services, Mr. and Mrs. Yousef are the first to sit with a friend in the hospital, provide rides, meals and companionship to seniors in need, and much more. They are integral contributors to the success of senior programs in Irvine.
