The City of Irvine appreciates the service of the following honoree:

Rahman "RQ" and Najma Quader
Irvine Senior Council
Najma and Rahman (RQ) Quader were partners for over 60 years in a remarkable journey together a journey that brought them from Pakistan to United States and eventually to Irvine. Najma and Rehman have led lives of extraordinary service. They have shared and advanced a multi-cultural sensibility that has made Irvine a special community. Their devotion to the Lakeview Senior Center and its many programs, including the genesis of Irvines Global Village Festival, has been legendary. Najma started as a volunteer at the senior center in 1995 and dedicated her time and energy to support the many programs and activities that were held. RQ was a continued support for Najma on these various projects. He also started the Annual Billiard Tournament at Lakeview Senior Center in honor of their son who died shortly after they moved to Irvine. Najma had been a member of the Senior Citizens Council since 1999. She was a founding member of Irvine Multicultural Committee and the Irvine Multicultural Association. She is fondly referred to by some as the founding Mother of the Irvine Global Village Festival. Najma was the former President and Board Member of the Friends of Outreach. She participated on the Irvine Global Village Festival Steering Committee every year. Najma passed in 2013.
