The Sand Canyon Undercrossing is designed to produce a number of benefits to motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, businesses and residents of the area. Once completed, the project will:

• Eliminate delays caused by waiting for trains to pass
   
• Provide easier access to local businesses
   
• Boost economic vitality by improved access
   
• Enhance driver/pedestrian/cyclist safety by removing conflicts with trains
   
• Shorten times for police, fire and ambulance to respond to emergencies
   
• Improve air/noise conditions by reducing pollution from idling motorist and noise from train horns
   
• Provide an overall better quality of life for the area
