I am pleased to welcome you to the Irvine Police Department Portola Area webpage. The members of the Portola Policing Team hope that this site will serve as a useful resource for residents, our business community, and visitors.
The Irvine Police Department has implemented geographic policing in an effort to develop greater ownership and a higher level of commitment between our officers and our community members. The geographic policing plan enhances customer service, and facilitates more positive interaction between police and the community we serve.
In support of geographic policing, the Irvine Police Department is organized into three service areas: University, Crossroads, and Portola. Each area is assigned an Area Commander who has “24/7” responsibility for each of the three service areas as it relates to traffic, crime, and quality of life issues. The Portola Team includes Patrol Officers, Traffic Officers, Detectives, School Resource Officers, Supervisors (Sergeants), Animal Services Officers, and Public Safety Assistants. Each of these team members has committed to serving their communities in the Portola Area.
As the Area Commander, I am responsible for the delivery of police services to the residential villages, commercial centers, faith based communities, and school campuses within the Portola Area.
Should you have questions or concerns regarding traffic, crime, or quality of life issues within the Portola geographic area please contact me at mmahoney@cityofirvine.org or at (949) 724-7059.
