I would like to welcome you to the University Area web site. The University Area Team members take great pride in providing a quality service to our community and I encourage you to take time to completely explore our web site to fully appreciate the efforts taken to maintain the quality of life in our community.
The Irvine Police Department implemented geographic policing in 2003 by dividing the City into three Geographic Areas and assigned an Area Commander to have the responsibility of providing police services within each area. In 2013, these geographic areas were updated drawing new boundaries to take into consideration patterns in calls for service, highway configurations, new construction and population growth.
As the University Area Commander, I assume the responsibility of ensuring that our community is provided with the best law enforcement and public safety services possible. I work with a dedicated team of Patrol Officers, Traffic Officers, Detectives, Civilian Service Officers, Civilian Traffic Investigators, School Resource Officers, Crime Prevention Officers, Crime Analysts, Dispatchers, and Animal Service Officers that truly understand the definition of service and the importance of applying a problem-solving approach through the development of community and professional partnerships.
University Area Team member goals are to carry out the police department’s mission and to do it in a way that is consistent with our Department values. Our mission - Working in partnership with the community we will preserve the peace, uphold the law with fairness and provide quality service – is what we do and our actions everyday should be measured against this benchmark. Our values guide the way in which we work toward our mission. It is these values that set the course for us to accomplish our mission.
I am honored to serve the Irvine community alongside the outstanding men and women of this Department. I am committed to creating innovative approaches to delivering police service and strive to develop relationships with those we serve. The men and women of the Irvine Police Department are also committed to creating and maintaining a partnership with our communities which is built on a foundation of integrity, respect, accountability and quality service.
Our accomplishments are through mutual trust, cooperation, and collaboration between the Police Department and the community we are entrusted to serve and of which we are a part. Irvine’s continued success is largely attributable to a collaborative approach with each and every member of the Police Department collectively taking an active interest in the safety of our City and community members.
I am always available to answer your questions and address your concerns. If you have a compliment about something you feel we did well, a complaint about something you think could have been better, or a suggestion regarding police services, please let me know. I can be reached directly at mhallinan@cityofirvine.org or call 949-724-7110.
